Victorians loved patterns, and sometimes had 10 or 15 in just one room, ceiling, walls, furniture, borders, rugs, etc. Don't be afraid to use a pattern for the rugs/ carpets as long as the colors go well with the wall paper and the size of the pattern is different from that of the wallpaper.
1800s the visitors' entry in typical Back Bay row homes was on the side. But here visitors step into a grand and lavishly decorated space. The dark furniture, black walnut woodwork and dim lights were designed to impress and intimidate visitors.
