exposure within an east-west oriented mid-lot while exploring opportunities for extended outdoor living spaces designed for the Canadian climate. The building’s plan and section is focused around a south-facing side-yard terrace creating an L-shaped cantilevered volume which helps shelter it from the winter
simple flat bar handrail & open side stair (no low edge wall)
And what if we had such steps going up, from the creek side of the house, and bricked the side to match the chimney?
Love detail in concrete steps with railing and color
Wall one side, hand rail other makes more
The concrete steps, integrated with the wall separating them from the driveway and planter beds, reminds me of Carlos Scarpa's Olivetti Showroom in Venice, one of the most beautiful modern stairs ever.

What is the purpose of those small holes in the concrete finished wall and how deep should be those holes ?
i love your idea for this stair, however i don't understand how to hang up the wood step against the wall.
they are nice ,but don't meet US building codes

dramatic staircase. The white oak treads project from the concrete wall at right but are not supported on the other end, defying gravity and adding drama to the ascent.

the entry, but I don't think you would want to do it for the one step on the second floor, so I might be temped to avoid it just to keep the stairs uniform.
I like the rough concrete wall. And the way sunlight comes in. It is really neutral and modern

Port Ludlow House
During the warm summer months, the living area feels like a large, open porch. Anchoring the north end of the living space is a two-story building volume containing several bedrooms and separate his/her office spaces. The interior finishes are simple and elegant, with IPE wood flooring, zebrawood cabinet
windows and doors. The metal siding has an alternating pattern using two different siding profiles. The house has a number of sustainable or “green” building features, including 2x8 construction (40% greater insulation value); generous glass areas to provide natural lighting and ventilation; large overhangs
east-facing house is sited along a high bank, with a wonderful view of the water. The main living volume is completely glazed, with 12-ft. high glass walls facing the view and large, 8-ft.x8-ft. sliding glass doors that open to a slightly raised wood deck, creating a seamless indoor-outdoor space. We like the seat next to the entrance and also the tile being separate with the wooden floor. We also like the wall with wood finish. The stepped deck is maybe an idea to insert shoes with a wooden lid.

I like the different dimensions of the this design. I like how the fire place surround is inset from the wall. How the hearth wraps.

Inside the central building, the palette of blues and whites and the impressive scale of the space, much taller than it appears from outside, are apparent. The vermillion exterior gives way to a softer space with lots of exposed wood.
