who manufactures the wood floor and what is the name of the color?
The wood floor is white oak, and the stain we used was ebony. The wood was not pre-finished; we added several coats of the stain on site, until we got to the desired color.
The railing was custom designed by FORMA and is made out of stained wood by a local cabinetmaker.
i don't like the sunken floor with wood :-0

What type of wood and stain is used on bench top?
Curious about wood type and stain color
crosses the bench? I am also considering a wood top counter for our kitchen island, but I'm struggling to find the right wood here too. Again, my cabinet designer suggests walnut with an oil-rubbed top because she's hesitant about a "finished" piece of wood serving as a countertop (says it will too easily
One thing to consider is walnut is incredibly soft, so if you do have littles a more durable wood such as maple, oak, or alder would be suggested.

The staircase design evokes a Japanese tansu. Glass inserted into grooves in the wood steps rplaces traditional balusters so that the glass disappears - it's all about the steps. Martin Mann
Love the floor! What kind of wood is it?
Black Walnut. Its such a beautiful wood. Here are some 8" floors made for other Houzz users. Let me know if you have any Walnut questions. joel@oakandbroad.
The tansu steps are framed by glass walls that let the light pour on the wood, making it the main focus. Each view takes you to a piece of art. The windows are framed asymmetrically, and are layered in perspective. Long simple orizontal and vertical llines suggest stability
Maybe these type stairs with cut outs lined in matching wood?
