do any ideas come to mind for using this carport space to transform house into modern cabin/farmhouse look? My wife and I love the modern cabin/lodge spaces like chalk hill, and landscaping that is simple and encourages outdoor life for us.

year-old boys can be a difficult age to design for. However, usually the best starting point is asking what they would like to see in their room or what interests them the most. Let them give you the ideas and you should be able to follow through with the design.
I like the water idea except i would use the statue of mother mary

like the idea of painting the windows brown or dark grey to pull the ugly metal windows in but then paint the (or add) header over the master and dining room windows a white or cream.... same color used on the stucco perhaps??

The idea of glass enclosure is exciting for me...it would balance the back of the house . I feel like I want some sort of a trellis portico along the front.
