re-siding our home with clear heart cedar and having a hard time finding a finish that is lasting.
Mixing Clear & tight knot Cedar
Love the look of the clear cedar in your pic. We are about to start putting a bunch of cedar siding on our house and were considering doing clear cedar on the front and
back as we don't use the back area much. Do you think this would be mistake to put 2 different types of cedar siding on the house (I'm thinking the clear may be darker and age differently, but I am a novice so would appreciate any advice). Thanks!
In general, I think you can mix clear and tight-knot if you find the right transitions. Other factors like stain (semi-trans/solid), siding type (t&g, lap, rainscreen, ship-lap, orientation (exposure) etc. can factor into the overall composition and aesthetic. Best of luck on your project! nerve-racking

finish. The colors and hues are natural. On other projects using barnwood we have sprayed a clear UV coating to resist fade. For cedar, I would recommend a wood conditioner to brighten it up and then a clear sealer to finish. Hope this helps.
I have only used a clear, water-based UV product on barnwood to keep the colors from fading over time. This darkens the wood slightly but makes for a longer contrast.
