Hi- Thanks for the question -- we used a 12 - 18" wide,2 - 3" deep bed of small scale river rock restrained with redwood edging -- could also have used a synthetic trex like product for the restraint. Rain water leaders drop water
laid over the river rock and edge to send the water to the grass -- the site was also lighty re-graded to direct water away from the house towards small swales in the grass - so after a season of observation, in many areas, including this photo -- the tiles were removed if it was clear that the water
