I would venture to say that the projecting wood arbor is secured to the ceiling joists that are protruding from the wall 2' or so.
One on either side of posts instead of attached to a wall, along the north side of the sidewalk; a cantilevered arbor.

Does the gas firebox against the stone wall in the living room actually have a chimney? Does it need one? I am remodeling and love the fireplace but our house does not have a chimney and a fireplace would need to be on an interior wall.
