Good question. I'll tell you why the sofa is away from the fireplace. This is a great idea I fear to use. The fireplace in all homes takes away a wall, uses too much space. This a low sofa and fireplace shows. My own would hide fireplace. Love this for space saving and looks.

Fireplace floor plans, want to build fireplace like this in our home.
It's a Quadra-Fire 7100. We're considering this model for our new home. I would like to suggest that you look into a Fireplace Extraordinaire FPX-44.
There's a lot of factors to consider. That area was part of a whole-home renovation and originally had a floor through that open area which we removed up to the second storey, requiring substantial structural improvements
if the roof is high enough in the middle there may be space for balcony type thing above the kitchen.
