Maple is a bit stronger than oak and shows less grain and striations, but it takes stain differently than oak because the base color is yellow. Maybe you could have your flooring contractor make some samples for you. That's what we did here -- samples were made until we got the stain color exactly right
is it french bleed? if so how do you create the look? we are planing our floors. Want oak as it is stronger and would like to stain it walnut, dont like the live patterns to show and rift is so expensive. Any suggestions?

The floor is lacquered oak. With the time the paint deteriorates and gives this vintage look. If you have a hardwood floor you can consult a specialist to check out it and ask if it's possible to lacquer it in white. Or you always can install a natural oak wood flooring and paint over it.
It is just painted wood. The hardwood floor is oak.

I love the look of this wood. Can you please tell me what was done to the rift-cut oak to give it this look? What specific stain was used? Thank you.
Honestly, I couldn't tell you- the GC's cabinet maker made several samples and the chosen one definitely had some blues and grays in it. I believe all of the samples were mixtures of Minwax products

the clients were completely on board with this paneled oak niche."I think it's a slightly modern, clean, but warm touch that counter-balances the traditional elements," says Herzog. The walls in this space are paneled with 10-inch-wide rift cut oak, stained in a blue/gray.
