I've never heard of baseboards serving as a defense against bugs. In fact the most commonly mentioned use for baseboards are: a) to seal the joint between wall material and floor material; b) to protect the wall material from damp/dirty mops, and/or scrapes and scratches from vacuum cleaners and brooms
The walls are a smooth finish thru-color paster veneer over plaster board, with no special technique on the finish. The color was developed and tweaked on site as colorant was added to the plaster veneer, so there is no color

Jeremy. They are the original, sanded 150mm wide Victorian floor boards varnished with Osmo Polyx oil. You could use reclaimed floor boards, sand and varnish them.

I'm putting 11.5 inch reclaimed white oak in my house and these look identical. So that's my guess, white oak in natural.
Hello, There isn't any timber showing in this image. the beams in the hallway are wrapped in gypsum wall board and painted. The bookcase on the right side of the hallway does have a head casing which is on the wall/beam, but it doesn't go up to the break in
wall is 27 feet. You might take a clue from this photo, where we have defined the transition between rooms, at door thresholds, by alternating the wood direction the width of the jamb. I don't know if your laminate has a pattern which would allow this, but if it does, use it to play up the transition
