designed a 1 1/2" base of plywood and installed the flooring on top. The front edge is made from a floor piece turned on it's edge. It's about 2 1/4" thick
The wood top is supported by two layers of 3/4" thick (1 1/2" total) of plywood. The corner is just alternating layers of plywood glued and screwed together
that we've since used for heavier books. Ideally you would install a layer of 1/2" plywood behind the sheetrock wall finish, but we've also just used the "toggler"
