Transforming this home from a very bad attempt at an arts and crafts look to this naturally modern design style. All cabinetry was removed and replaced with a beautiful walnut cabinet with a delightfully simplistic door style. The island was previously an awkward shape with many angles making it difficult to walk around. We squared it up but kept one angle to play into the angles in the rest of the house. We added a seating area at table height to accommodate all who visit.

In Seattle's Fremont neighborhood SCJ Studio designed a new landscape to surround and set off a contemporary home by Coates Design Architects. The narrow spaces around the tall home needed structure and organization, and a thoughtful approach to layout and space programming. A concrete patio was installed with a Paloform Bento gas fire feature surrounded by lush, northwest planting. A horizontal board cedar fence provides privacy from the street and creates the cozy feeling of an outdoor room among the trees. LED low-voltage lighting by Kichler Lighting adds night-time warmth . We gave our master bedroom a much needed update this year. I love for my bedroom to be a soothing space,, so went with various shades of neutral and lots of texture over pattern. Bed, nightstands and dresser by Restoration Hardware, Lighting by Gabby, rug by Home Goods, Bedding by Pottery Barn and Vanity by Pier 1. Window treatments in Pindler linen.

This ranch was a complete renovation! We took it down to the studs and redesigned the space for this young family. We opened up the main floor to create a large kitchen with two islands and seating for a crowd and a dining nook that looks out on the beautiful front yard. We created two seating areas, one for TV viewing and one for relaxing in front of the bar area. We added a new mudroom with lots of closed storage cabinets, a pantry with a sliding barn door and a powder room for guests. We raised the ceilings by a foot and added beams for definition of the spaces. We gave the whole home a unified feel using lots of white and grey throughout with pops of orange to keep it fun.

Working with an award winning home design firm, this home was conceptualized and planned out with the utmost in attention to detail. Unique architectural elements abound, with the most prominent being the curved window set with extended roof overhang that looks a bit like a watch tower. Painting that feature a dark color, ensured that it remained noticeable without overtaking the front facade. Extensive cedar was used to add a bit of rustic charm to the home, and warm up the exterior. All cedar is stained in Benjamin Moore Hidden Valley. If you look at each side of the highest gable, you will see two cedar beams flaring out. This was such a small detail, but well worth the cost for a crane and many men to lift and secure them in place at 30 feet in height. Many have asked the guys at Pike what the style of this home is, and neither them nor the architects have a set answer. Pike Properties feels it blends many architectural styles into one unique home. If we had to call it something though, it would be Modern English Country. A full, custom remodel turned a once-dated great room into a spacious modern farmhouse with crisp black and white contrast, warm accents, custom black fireplace and plenty of space to entertain.
