11. A Chicago Loft Rises to the RaftersThis project combined two spacious Chicago loft apartments into one stunning space. Although the new design has a modern feel, the original exposed rafters and ductwork maintain its old-school loft style. Houzzers couldn't get enough of the beautiful wood finishes

Houzz at a Glance Who lives here: A family of 5 Location: Chicago Size: 9,100 square feet of living space That's interesting: The repurposed building was once a barn (circa 1875), later used as a dairy distribution center and then art studios
exudes Chicago: It is solid and has some decoration but is not overly flashy. The reuse of the building and its new function are signaled by the new door and transom on the right. Minus this elevation and a facade on the narrow alley around the corner, most of the existing exterior had to be taken down
building in Chicago used to be a dairy distribution center, but was renovated into a beautiful, modern home that wraps around an interior courtyard. The complex masonry detailing of the front facade (which is so difficult to duplicate today) was preserved, while the interior was rethought and redesigned.

amazing Chicago apartment. He explained that since this entry has a lowered ceiling, he and James Dolenc went moody, with a touch of glamour. "The dark paint on the ceiling relates to the color of the iridescent wallpaper and defines the space in a jewel box kind of way," he said.
Chicago loft. Wallpaper can be a great way to visually distinguish an open entryway from the rest of the house. The glass-top table provides a contemporary complement to the more traditional wallpaper pattern here. See more of this home
