Daniel Shapiro: Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
An ideal solution to his dilemma of separating the sleeping area from the rest of the loft, Daniel and Karen looked to IKEA shelving in lieu of a solid wall. As Shapiro explains, “[They] are very functional in the sense that they both divide the space and serve as bookshelves.” With a total living
I like the bookcases for the wall separation
Two Ikea Expedit shelves separate the sleeping area from the rest of the loft. The tufted upholstered headboard mirrors the sectional sofa. The custom pillows are made with vintage Vietnamese natural indigo.Bed: Tate, Crate & Barrel; side table: custom, Modernica

Hi, where did you get the wall brackets for the handrail? Thanks, Ryan
used threaded rods for machinery to make the support for the shelf. The planks are held by nuts and washers (which is convenient for levelling the shelves)

These people have given their chalkboard wall the look of a large-scale wallpaper print. The birch trees are larger than life.
3. Drawing roomA coat or two of blackboard paint and the possibilities are endless. Not only will that plain wall never be boring again, it will be an ever-evolving reflection

Was the wall unit purchased or made? What material is used to cover the tv and runs along the track? Thanks!
The wall unit is custom. The sliding panels are tempered glass in a satin finish.
LOVE the whole wall entertainment system...

storage. Closets tend to be in short supply in lofts and studios. Build in your own storage by taking over one entire wall for the purpose. Fill the wall from floor to ceiling with shelving, cabinets or closets. Even if the cost seems high, this is something that makes life easier and more pleasant every
No, this doesn't mean everything has to be all in a row. But consider the shape of your shelves and the shapes of the objects on them. The horizontal stacks of books nicely complement the rectangular shelves in this design.

How are these long wall-mounted bookcases supported?
I have a similar situation where I need to mount rather long bookshelves on a wall with 2x4 studs behind the sheetrock.
We usually have our metal fabricator make a t-shaped support that we attach to the wood studs and stick out before sheet rock and then we attach the shelve over the metal support. You can do the same over the sheet rock but I find the shelf isn't as stable this way. IKEA has a similar system that you buy

in any corner of the house to protect your walls, or just as an interesting alternative to paint. The slightly textured tiles and brown grouting in this kitchen nook are an original take on the classic metro look, and they work perfectly with the dark shelves.
Do: Seek out pretty storage containers. It can be quite handy to have frequently used dry goods within reach on open shelves, but original packaging is hardly ever attractive and is often messy.Neaten things up and help your supplies stay fresh longer by decanting ingredients into sturdy, airtight glass
