before the siding goes up. It creates an interesting pattern and is quite textural. I've used this material for flooring, sanding it way down and clear coating it for a look that mimics cork.

Photograph by Jeri Koegel The combination of different color paint with different stone surfaces adds a casual feel to this Brick Floor kitchen
what is the flooring? is it real brick? thanks!
What a great floor design! Kudos!
The flooring......what is the material? I am looking at cork tiles for my .small cape house kitchen, but also have been very happy with the long wearing and looks of our linolium floor.
A herringbone brick floor and the couple's beloved rooster and iron pig lend the kitchen a country look. A blue and white coral print chair and new color on the island add coastal style.
bricks (especially old ones) are quite porous and must be sealed often to protect against stains and wear. Laid in a herringbone pattern, this brick floor provides visual interest and a warm, colorful contrast to the bright white cabinetry.

What are the benefits of cork flooring? Is it better than wood for the kitchen?
The benefit of cork for this homeowner is the softness underfoot. She really wanted something soft because she has some knee sensitivities. I think it is fairly practical, but has its issues just like any other floor. She has been happy with it. Here is an ideabook
