Yes, they are phone-and-key cubbies, one fore each member of the family. Each cubby has a duplex outlet inside for charging mobile devices.

Are there any standard parts in the tie rod assembly?
Creative! What cable tie system did you use?
decorative tie in cneter, nice connections to wood
elevated L shaped bar, countertops, sleek hood on high ceiling. Like the fabricated collar ties as well.
tie rods, if used at end of open gable would use more subtle joint between tie rods
design accordingly. Metal rods, which are better at withstanding tension, are more appropriate than wood for tie beams and king or queen posts. And why not pull the tie beam, or in this case the tie rod, higher to open up the space, not unlike the struts in a scissor truss?
