Do tiled decks like this feel as solid as standard decks?
wondering if we could pull off this square pattern design using a mix of repurposed and new wood? If so, how would we accomplish the design/building of this deck? Any and all advice is much appreciated.

Decking. A contractor friend of mine calls wood decks “dry rot in slow motion.” He’s pretty spot-on. Traditional wood decks, regardless of how much waterproofing sealant you apply each year, will eventually succumb to nature’s forces (or termites). But if you’ve got a sloping property, need a level surface
surface for outdoor entertaining and want to avoid the expense and disruption of building retaining walls, decking is the way to go. Since you’re not likely to add on to the deck once it’s built, now is the time to decide how it will be used and make space for all the furnishings you want.

Absolutely stunning. Can you please tell me what the decking material is? Thanks.
The decking is redwood, 4 x 4 dimensional size. We wanted to achieve an effect of a "floating" deck and therefore used the larger material. In this Japanese Garden, the gravel symbollically represents water, the boulders are islands. We wanted to provide the the symbollic illusion that the deck is
This is a stunning patio design. I love the cover, the varied deck levels, and the custom design that both complements and contrasts the house. I bet the owners spend many happy hours here.
