Cal, pick a semi shady area, ensure good drainage, plant as tight as desired (it's not a fairly fast spreader)

the feed, Chondrus crispus is not the Irish Moss in this picture, this is actually Sagina subulata, also commonly called Irish Moss. It is not a true moss, so it actually does spread fairly quickly.
