install the washer in a pan with a drain
The washing machine itself could leak, so if you're on an upper floor, it should be installed in a pan with a drain, as shown in this picture. Better yet, tile the floor and have a floor drain installed. This way you'll be ready for any floods and you can mop the floor right into the drain.

Tip: Install double wall sockets above countertops for clear task lighting. My rule of thumb is to install one fixture every 6 feet. Also want shut-off valve kit on washer that detects leaks.
To prevent flooding ask your plumber to install a washing machine valve shutoff kit. These kits have a floor-mounted sensor that will detect any puddles and instantly shut off the water valve
help you see and fight stains better. Use a mixture of task lighting installed under your cabinetry and ambient ceiling lighting. Tip: Install double wall sockets above countertops for clear task lighting. My rule of thumb is to install one fixture every 6 feet.

How to install the washer/dryer into such a small opening?
If you install on wheels, isn't it an issue getting the washer "level"? Do you have breaks on the wheels so the washer doesn't move during a spin?
In my homes with washer/dryers I find it best to install a base with a set of wheels, this not only allows for easier installation, but helps when

dryer model and would like to recreate in the home we are building. Where is the main drain located for the washer? Do you know if it is difficult to install washer and dryer in this configuration? Thanks in advance!
washer is on the wall behind it as well as the supply water. We did install shut-off valves in the cabinet above however so they could be easily shut-off when not in use (vacations, etc) This is really not that difficult to install, we do the majority of our projects in this manner.

the electrical, water, and wastewater hookups made? There doesn't appear to be any access to the rear of the units. Also, how difficult is it to install and remove the units? I can't see any places to get a good hand hold on them to pull them out. Thanks.
The countertop is "Alaska White" Granite. Supplied and installed by Bordignon Marble & Granite, Vancouver, BC, Canada. It is best to have a look at your local stone suppliers and view their selection.
The Washer and Dryer are by LG. These were installed in the Laundry/Mudroom (adjacent to the kitchen) and their large capacity meant that the counter was 6" higher and deeper than a typical kitchen

Where did you buy the rod? And how did you install it?
They are available at all major hardware stores like Lowes. Our contractor installed it but I am guessing it should be pretty straightforward.
Its not terribly hard. you rarely need to move them after installing. Yes, just make the connections and slide them in. I like this idea and stacking. Both have benefits.

disaster pan that collects flooding water into a drain can be installed flush with the floor 5) a washer hose that breaks in an unfinished basement isn't a big deal but in this case it sat above the new kitchen 6) dont forget power 7) we had to install removable stop so the units would fit through the door
It is on the Second Level and we installed a "disaster pan" which is in case of a flood and that in installed level and then with the appliances also being leveled, there has been no issue of noise of vibration.
