After I posted how to decorate a mantle on Facebook, I was asked to post how to decorate a Christmas tree. So I am happy to do so. I love decorating my Christmas Tree and love decorating it in a traditional style with wire ribbon and the ornaments that I have collected over many years. The first thing I do is the tree lights and I always use lots of lights - 2 or even 3 packages and use lights with green wire so it doesn't show.. I wrap the lights around a large stick so they don't get all tangled up and then I have another person (or even 2 people depending upon the width of the tree) help me wrap the lights around the tree in rows that are fairly close together, so you end up with lots of lights.. I . Once the lights are done, I put on my angel at the top of the tree and then do the ribbon. I purchase 3 long 10ft wire ribbons - 2 red and 1 gold and use the red ribbons on the sides and the gold ribbon in the center. I make a huge bow at one end of the gold ribbon and then arrange the gold ribbon in a zig zag fashion down the front of the tree. I place the red ribbons either side of the tree tucking them under the gold bow, and zig zag the red ribbon in a similar fashion as I did the gold ribbon down the 2 sides of the tree. Make sure to tuck the ribbons in deep into the tree, before going in the opposite direction. Once the ribbons are done, you fill in with your ornaments. I know today the fashion is using a series of huge impersonal enhancers such as violins or large bows and pinecones - but I have collected many lovely Christopher Radco and other ornaments over the years that mean something special to me, so I like to use those. Whatever ornaments you use, and you can use as many or as few ornaments as you wish... enjoy putting them up. Our family tradition is to put on Christmas Music, drink champagne and have a Christmas tree decorating party! Which is probably why I love decorating my Christmas tree.
