sources. Exposed beams, picture windows and an inner courtyard create a cozy and warm living space.A local artisan created hemp and limestone walls, which have a velvety appearance. remodeled your ceilings did you just expose existing beams and add drywall I between or did you just add "fake" beams? Thanks!
you've only exposed one area in the house. I've really enjoyed going through your blog. You've done an amazing transformation!
Hi Brooke, they are the original joists. We actually added painted MDO (paper-faced plywood) on top of the joists...which also serves as the structural sub-floor for the loft above
on the ceiling is a piece of aluminum that we used at the panel joint.) The drywall on the walls is notched to go around and between the joists though.

open beam ceiling joist, size of room and pique of roof?
How did you go about insulating this ceiling before you sheetrocked it?
the exposed beams act as collar ties which help keep the walls from spreading apart. As always, consult a structural engineer when dealing with foundation and/or framing issues.
Similarly, this vaulted white ceiling might feel too cavernous without a row of beams to visually break things up.
paint wall and ceiling, but have rafter/collar ties natural wood
Again, like simplicity of these dark-stained wood beams against the light ceiling. Am thinking that finishing ceiling in wood planks would make our family room too dark? 14
