In this case, you could have built-ins and build a soffit above them with lightingso the built-ins don't have to be super high, just like in this photo!
A similar look to what I'm going for...just make this couch in the foreground a pair of club chairs or possibly a sectional.

Townhouse Redecorate
carpenter and I are trying to decide on the depth of the shelves. 12" would fit my storage needs and the size of the room....but I'm wondering if that would make the unit appear cheap or flimsy. So, I was wondering how deep your shelves are.....because they look great! Thanks. Renee
Bookcase we can round the top and make cabinets at the bottom for more storage. She may also like wallpaper on the inside of the bookcase.
