My builder, LM Farina & Sons found the source and had the boards milled and plugged.

I just saw a note on our page that says I've not answered this question.....the shame! I try to answer questions ASAP, so, my apologies. The fireplace surround is a porcelain tile called 'Broadway II' in color 'Bronzo' that we obtained through Statements Tile here in Seattle
That's great! I actually teach incoming graduate architecture students at the U. of Washington and wish all of my students were as interested and aware as your son, especially at age 9!

The yellow house in my earlier ideabook achieves its color through plywood panels, which are extended inside to great effect. The material covers the walls and ceiling in the living room, and even the window and door frames match to accentuate the warmth.

my research told me mine is from Norway as well. I love this thing and it happens to be the ONLY gift my ex boyfriend ever gave me in 5 years, but that's NOT why I love it! I found an almost exact miniature
I have one just like this.It was brought from Holland and belonged to my grandmother and then my mother. I would assme that it is about 60 years or older. You can find a newer versoin at craft stores but there are much smaller.
