What's the difference between a bar stool and counter stool?

Because a home bar is often higher than a kitchen counter, a bar stool is going to be the taller option. Typically, a barstool is 30 inches tall, while a kitchen stool is shorter, around 24 to 26 inches. Both versions can come with or without a back, depending on the style of the chair and your personal preferences.

What material should bar stools or counter stools be made of?

Because it's such a big part of the chair's overall style, the material used is often dictated by what look you're going for. Leather and wicker are often found in traditional kitchens or bars, while plastic, wire and metal are more modern options. Depending on the rest of the finishes, wood and upholstery can fit into several style categories, which makes them great for transitional spaces. Although the look is important, be sure to consider comfort as well. A metal or wire bar chair is probably not as comfortable as leather, so think about that before making the investment. You can always add a chair cushion too, if the comfort level isn't quite up to par.
