kitchen anchor the southern, more traditional wing of the house with its spacious vaulted ceilings. A chimney punctuates this area and features a granite clad fireplace on the interior and an exterior fireplace expressing split face concrete block. Photo Credit: Mike Sinclair
Fireplace: I like the idea of filling up to the ceiling. Maybe red brick wall?
Interesting timber-frame fireplace surround, with granite cladding on interior (three piece: one large piece across top and two below the latter, on either side of firebox).
Add texture to your fireplace. If your room has a fireplace, consider beefing it up with a textural element. This granite fireplace surround gives the room an important visual focus while staying true to the room's clean form. Tip: Whatever finish you and your designer

A little color goes a long way. Our brains respond more quickly to red than any other color, so even a small accent can energize a setting, such as the single red butterfly chair on this small covered veranda.
