removing the wood post and adding a room-spanning steel girder on the ceiling, Jay was able to drastically open up and reconfigure the kitchen space. The wooden post would have been right on top of where this table now sits. The entertainment producer’s father made the table and chairs by hand in the 1950s

type of wood are they made from?
kind of wood the cabinets are made of. Thanks for your question!
warm wood cabinets, flooring?, mod furniture
I would replace the floors with wood or tile floors, but I'm in love with the table and chairs and the wood cabinets. I would also change the counter tops to something a bit more retro or mid century.

the best woods or flooring to use over radiant flooring? Solid wood vs. engineered, tile, carpeting in bedrooms? We have recently gutted a ranch that will be entirely heated under floor.
Wood is not a problem when properly installed although tile conducts heat better. :) Rhoda
Tile is #1. You can get tile that looks like wood. Below are a couple of examples, the first is by Porcelanosa and the second is by Ricchetti Collezioni Ceramiche. Note that tile is more costly than wood

burled redwood forms an L-shaped island bar top. All the interior wood cabinetry, flooring, door frames and doors are walnut. The geometric shapes above the island are actually a modular lighting system.
The wood can be destroyed by a wet area, you don't see wood floor kitchens in any of these photos. I think tile behind island to sink at least.
interior wood cabinetry, flooring, door frames and doors are walnut. The geometric shapes above the island are actually a modular lighting system.
