How tall and wide should my bar table be?

Your bar table should be the same height as any typical bar, which is around 40-42 inches tall. You should be able to accommodate your bar table with standard height bar stools. In terms of width, measure the space where you plan to place the table. You want it to be able to fit with stools while also leaving enough room for people to easily move and gravitate around the table. If you have a larger space, consider buying a table with an expandable leaf to accommodate larger parties when necessary.

What style should I consider?

Bar tables come in a variety of styles and shapes, and since it will most likely be in your kitchen, living room or basement décor, be sure it complements your existing theme. A bar table can generally accommodate two to four bar stools, and are usually found in circular or square shapes. You can choose a wooden one for traditional appeal, or a bar table with sleek, steel legs and a metal top to contemporize your space.

What types of bar stools should I choose to match?

Try to find something that is complementary to your table in both style and height. In terms of style, look for a bar stool that reflects similar elements of the table, such as material or detailing. Determine how tall your stools should be by measuring to the top of your bar table and subtracting 9-12 inches; this should be the maximum height of your stools. The standard size for bar stools is 26-31 inches tall. If your bar table is in an already tight space, you may want backless stools so you can get them out of the way by tucking them under the table when not in use.

How many stools should I place around my table?

You want to provide maximum seating without overcrowding your table. Usually, bar tables will fit up to four stools. Try to leave 21-24 inches of counter space per stool so each person can sit comfortably.
