It's about 4'6 to the bottom of the top bunk, so there would definitely be room for a dresser. Don't know about a desk, but if it was for a child, it may work, depending on the age and height of the child.
All the materials (not including mattresses) will cost about $400. Labor to build
a good carpenter to do this for about $5k.

Why write an article on carpet and not tell us where to find the carpet in your
carpet was existing prior to us hoping on board this project. We are constantly asked about this particular carpet, so a good alternative would be a line called Woolridge. It has a nice pile and soft to the touch. Hope this helps!

not to be too wide on the nightstand to allow adequate space on the sides of the beds. It is "do-able" but will decrease the space on the sides to about 24" +/-.
