Immidiately After Construction
Immediately after construction, mulch color is important, but permanent dyes in mulch are not important if the plants are expected to fill in within a year or two. We used two different mulches: fir bark, a higher-end mulch, in the front where it is at eye level, and small recycled Eco-mulch in the back, because it handles slopes very well.

Its a great technique that allows for privacy screening to be grown in a tight space while offering the benefit of having room beneath to plant an additional species of plant allowing for a broader diversity of species within the garden.
