In modern times, cairns are often erected as landmarks, a use they have had since ancient times. Since prehistory, they have also been built as sepulchral monuments, or used for defensive, hunting, ceremonial, astronomical and other purposes.

I believe it is the latter for the shapes are more squat than his signature shape.

Also Andy Goldsworthy's pieces do not have seams flowing up to take away from the stability of the masonry...these
way of sculptural rock formations, egg-shape designs have even found their way outdoors.
There is no question that these three rock formations add mass to this meditation garden. Clearly, these pieces are man-made, but because they were built from native stone rather than from metal or fiberglass

Walking meditation path, what a great idea, and a wonderful focal point or conversation starter! Looks so elegant, calm. Maybe you don't even have to walk it, you can just stare at it! LOL!

Meditation doesn't necessarily mean inactivity. A simple feature such as this meditation walk is a garden focal point and a way to focus your thoughts. Note how the size of the stones goes from small to large as you move to the inside of the circle.
