type of wood is used for the mantel?
stant wood that has been sandblasted to look aged, and has possibly been stained. You could do this with redwood or a more expensive hardwood like ipe, shorea, teak or eucalyptus. Any wood that could be used for decking also could be used for the mantel of an outdoor fireplace.
the top wood structure is exactly what I envisioned. The pic also shows the wrought iron idea but I would like it to fill in the space between columns
