adding a covered patio as a porch or with a trellis would help protect a dining area from rain or wind but would still provide the reason to be outside. Having a covered area would also provide a place to have a fan or light fixture to help set the mood in the evenings.

Was a rubber membrane used for weather proofing below deck. I have the same issue in the buffalo Ny area. Looking at options for the snow we get here
a roof like this can last say 20 years without leaking. that being said. I absolutely would love to have this deck and a fireplace/outdoor kitchen area on the top of my house.
