It's a great idea. I've been looking for something easy, low cost and good looking for my garden. This would help keep my dogs in their yard and my chickens out of my veggies!
Anything in the design to keep gophers(or prairie dogs) from digging under the fence?
do something similar to my yard in Fort Collins...but wanted to not have weed barrier...thinking maybe cardboard for better decomposition and Eco friendly
Designated dog-free garden area in backyard
would be great for designated area in the backyard and chicken area at home
This one gives the illusion of openness, but has protective screen/chicken wire to discourage dogs from going through. Also looks like old redwood which is our wood.
to the trouble of growing your own vegetables, the last thing you want is for them to be gobbled up by the resident wildlife or dug up by chickens or dogs. A rustic gate and fence in keeping with the garden beyond could be the way to go. Plant nasturtiums on either side of the gate for colour, and to keep

The walk from the driveway is flanked by beds of Liriope as a substitute for turfgrass. With two large dogs, keeping the old lawn in good shape required constant effort. The new planting scheme meets the client's goal to reduce maintenance
Dog friendly with Liriope instead of grass.
no mow grass...would have to be where dog doesn't go

How can I design a pet friendly and human friendly backyard?
already know you want to use the yard for your family and your pet, but how much grass do you want to care for? What will your family enjoy doing in the backyard?
some basic things now so you can work with the professional and have them create a yard design you will love. First think about the hardscape areas: dog runs, patios, observe hardscape in your area, photograph and choose a few you like to show the professional. Go to your nursery and choose some plants
If you have a strong enough tree, add a swing. Swing supplies can be purchased from any local hardware store, and adding one to your backyard is a fun project you can do with your children.

enjoy my backyard while being ogled by strangers or have to listen to their conversations. I want to be able to play some music, read a book, have some privacy in my pool, etc. AND entertain my own guests without disturbing their businesses. Plus, my dog is a jerk and tried to attack other dogs. Unluckily
Something I can stand up and tend to is best. And the less dirt or rocks, the better. I like grass, concrete and water and like it to be clean, dog-friendly and low-maintenance.

Maybe? Stone and brick where all our grass exists today in backyard, then put in lawn garden in this style where back orchard is today
