Seems unpractical in a real world of kids?
Thanks @Casill. Actually this is in the real world and used heavily by a family with three kids under the age of 10. Does it get messy? Absolutely! But thats what brooms are for :)
and easy kid fun, a hidden sandbox?
sandbox in garden context for either kid or a art sand play like sand-molded items. Could even put it in a raised bed with an easy-to-clean out and refresh design.
Nestling a sandbox within a planting bed not only will help integrate it into the garden, but also will let kids get up close and personal with plants and
Camouflage the sandbox. Sand provides a potentially soothing sensory experience and stretches the imagination. Nestling a sandbox within a planting bed not only will help integrate it into the garden, but also will let kids get up close and personal

What type of rock is being used on these raised beds?
As far as I recall the trellis was made of painted tubular steel. The trellis and landscape architecture was designed by Curt Arnette of Sitio Design in Austin, Texas (512) 394-0047. Exceptional landscape architect.
According to the very talented landscape architect, Curt Arnette of Sitio Design (Austin, Texas) it is comprised of a base of decomposed granite topped with 1-1/2" of 3/8" pea gravel.

"Flower bed" I see what you did there
Time to make your flower bed.
wrought iron canopy bed over flower bed.
this garden bed (in all senses of the phrase).Design tip: Although this appears casual, you will need to plan ahead to keep this look going. Beneath the mass of flowers is a solid, soil-filled enclosure between the posts of the bedframe. You'll also need to water consistently to keep the bed in bloom.
Between Naps on the Porch - how amazing is this flowering bed in her yard? It's so feminine and pretty and, yes, very, very fancy.
Wouldn't you love to meet the person who woke up one morning and said, "Today, I think I'll go make myself a flower bed?" I don't even have to meet them to know I'd like them

Love this design, with mulch or oak leaves in passage way.
This designer has created curved islands of edible plants, rather than the typical rows. It makes it more fun to walk around when gathering fresh veggies or when showing off one's hard work to visitors.
RockConstructing raised beds from rock is a very easy DIY project for the average homeowner. Small
can be used, and they needn't be mortared in place, assuming your wall is fairly low (12 inches or less, still a respectable height for raised beds). The beds can be straight or curved, like the ones shown here, and larger rocks can simply be pushed up against one another, while smaller ones can nestle

Hi - I really like this design and plan to build in my yard. When you line the inside, are you stapling a liner to the wood and leaving the bottom open? Is the 2x10
between the raised beds. It compacts into a hard surface, more difficult for weeds to penetrate. It has worked well so far and looks very nice.
Rob: Outstanding job with this project. I'm curious, what type of stain or oil did you use? This is by far our favorite raised bed example. We're copying
