Morning glories make profuse amounts of seed.....plants that spread by runners--mint for example may be somewhat inhibited by planting in its container.

Clematis should work well for you. Most types are light in weight, and very beautiful. You'll find lots to choose from in your preferred colors. (I do not recommend "Sweet Autumn Clematis," though, because it is invasive. Speaking from
peas and morning glories. They're basically sun plants, but are worth a try in spots that get afternoon sun. They're both very easy to grow from seed. (You can find out your garden zone by going to http://www.garden.org/zipzone/ and typing in your zip code.)
