Mortared bluestone on the porch reinforces the random pattern slate tile flooring inside the home’s foyer. Line voltage outlets and low voltage light fixtures within the walls and columns provide functionality and security.

The porch, steps, and walls were engineered for function, comfort, and usability. Masonry walls replaced the home’s outdated iron railings to satisfy municipal code while preserving the design’s functional integrity.

Constructed on a full footing and reinforced concrete, the walls and piers enclose a mortared porch sized for small gatherings. The home was nominated and received Glen Ellyn’s Historic Preservation Award for its devotion to detail.

Porch walls envelope the top gathering area, clad in an “age-matched” custom quarry mix of five limestones that matches the home’s 80 year old weathered color and texture. Mortar color, style, and laying pattern were matched.
