intended as a true pergola but sure you could add clear cedar slats (angled) or a retractable canopy. When I saw this project my initial thought was a) sculptural element and b) it framed the view when looking in the distance from the home -- in both cases BRILLIANT!
is flexible enough to allow for many things. The cantilever projects the deck into the landscape while still being above it. The architects call it a way to frame the view of the distant city lights.

Floating concrete planks form a bridge that connects one side of the backyard to the other. The tile wall at the end of the pool is a great way to terminate the vista; its color is somewhere between that of the water and the sky.
