This picture shows a concrete floor with regular scoring -- which makes it look like tile. But to answer your question -- my answer is that it depends. thru the tile and settign bed. That moisture has to have some place to go. It is best if the sub floor is pitched do drain. The moisture wicking out will bring lime deposits with it. This can be unsightly after awhile. Careful detailing is needed here. I do not think a thin set application on plywood

There are thin set systems available like Mape or Shlueter I would recommend you consult an engineer. There is much to think about and the investment should be a carefully

kind of tiles have been used?

I mean, most designers are working with existing staircases and trims so it's impossible to answer these questions. One of the newel posts I saw pictured had to have
furniture, tile, bath fixtures & design fees. My main criteria while searching on Houzz was that the designer/firm was active in answering questions. It was important that the designer was a participant on this site and not just a freeloader. If questions are a nuisance then do not post your name & projects
posts the pictures and they had nothing to do with the choosing of the decor. Sometimes the designer has enhanced the homeowner's space, so there are many elements that the homeowner had acquired themselves and there are no records of those. Fabrics are always being discontinued, so there's little point
