The designer answered this in the previous question. It was a custom design for this client. It is a swing gate, but a sliding gate is a very cool idea as well!

Yes, it can be designed to be on a sliding track, like a moveable louver system.
Sliding louvered door in tracks like barn door
Operable sliding louvered panels allow privacy and the ability to modulate the sun and air when needed. I could imagine these being equipped with insect screens, creating a sleeping porch for cool fall nights.
Another view of the breezeway shows how it can be closed off with sliding doors to cut

Steve, Normally folding doors are more expensive than sliding (telescoping) doors as they have more hardware requirements etc. They both have advantages- sliding doors can slide into a pocket
stack allowing you additional space in your opening instead of having your sliding panels stack to the side. Depending on the manufacture, sliding doors are normally easier to operate. I recommend having a look at Fleetwood sliding & folding doors. http://www.houzz.com/pro/fleetwood1/fleetwood-windows-doors
