The ferns we used here are a staple in just about any woodland garden we design. It is called haysented fern, (Dennstaedtia punctilobula). Plant it in areas where you have erosion, and be prepared to let it take over... The fall color is amazing too--buttery-yellow and rust. Good luck!

change. I know many collectors who have reached this point. Evaluate your plants; take note of those that are performing well and those that aren’t. Consider planting a single species en masse. In the end you won’t be sorry.

I LOVE sweetfern. It's just an amazing plant... I've found it's fall color to be less reliable than other natives, but you just can't beat the scent and form of it.
I love your use of native plants. Here in the Midwest, I use a different palette of plants, but the effect is the same. Sweet fern

various plants, yard art details. Maybe for the island area
I really like the mix of plants and hard
landscape, with low-lying plants and a pretty stone path, is perfectly complemented by this creative use of wagon wheels.
"Natural" doesn't have to mean "barren," nor does it have to be simply a reflection of the landscape beyond. This garden has an almost cottage look, with masses of grasses and perennials
