Rustic homes take their cue from mountain lodges, log cabins and Wild West–themed homes. Cabin homes have a distinguishable look on the outside — they usually have weathered wood, log construction, stone siding and, of course, a view of the mountains. On the inside, rustic decor focuses on rough, weathered materials, such as knotted wood, leather, wrought iron and wool. Animal themes are also popular in this style. An authentic mountain house often incorporates antlers, taxidermy, cowhide rugs and bear or moose accessories. Although a mountain house can include all of the above, some go for a subtler rendition of the style by including only a few rustic details.
