threaded wood balusters offer contrast to the naturally finished douglas fir railings. In series, the balusters resemble both a finely turned woodwork and raw pieces of building hardware.
ps.
the balusters were turned for the owners as a "house warming gift"

Is the flooring Douglas Fir as well?
yes floor and railings are all doug fir
carpet on stairs but wood on 2nd landing.
another example...round wood looks like....with nat. squared wood is nice
What type of wood is used in these stairs? Thanks.
We are also doing hickory tread, newels, floor. I had the idea of getting remnant carpets strips and having them bound and install on treads. My concern is how to install, glue or staple
stone, and floor to ceiling fireplace surround. Was wondering how it would look against the hickory, and this pic helps. We have grey cobblestone as well.
Caranu flooring and are thinking about a bound runner, but this is a very cool idea. You stapled them down?
The flooring and stair treads and risers are #2 hickory with a custom stain. The stain helps to even out the light and dark of the hickory wood while enhancing the graining.
