I am an architect in New Orleans and we have designed a very similar stair. We had specified 1/2" steel plate and the depth of the steel is 5 1/2" on both the rise and the run. The stairs are freestanding and
engineer says he is concerned about deflection. Is this similar to the stairs you've done and have you experienced any deflection? We are Ok going to 3/4" stringers but they tell us we need 7" depth of the rise and run. I'm just curious about your experience and realize you might not want to advise us not to

We have walnut floors with a lot of variation, but we are having a very hard time matching the stair treads. We were told that Hickory is the closest match we could use for treads, but now the challenge is stain to match our floors

A square nosing with the corner radius at 3mm or 6mm to soften the edges is always nice. This is a more contemporary or modern look. Good luck with your project!

More floating stairs without needing a wall
gap between up and down-I prefer this- would like even more space if possible
