steel bar to protect the opening instead of oversized (thick) treads to limit the space. They also limit the openness. And I like the wood that you have chosen to offset the powdercoated black steel. I also like the beams offset from the edges, instead of at the extremes. Very nice.

No, it's all made of flat bars, angles and C channels. It is powder coated though.
