Martha, I love your work! Designing on a budget without a designer & I'm in the middle of new construction with an open floor plan that has a bay seating area (per our 3 daughters request) & I have colors of your other rooms that I'm using, but really needed this wall color if possible. I'm nervous

A stairway wrapped around an interior courtyard would look really cool. Or even just a skylight over a multi-story stairway
Not all interior courtyards need to be accessible or of a size that does much more than bring sunlight for part of the day to the middle of deep floor plates. For while these central voids bring a little bit of nature inside houses, they also help reduce energy bills by making daylight that much more

resale homes built before current building codesmight not be subject to retrofit for things like this. For example, bannister now need to be a certain hieght and spindles need to be a certain distance apart; very different if it was being built today vs. several years ago.
Inexpensive, beautiful way to make a stair safe. Needs railing.
If we need a basement railing, maybe we can incorporate some version of this.
This could work on the basement run of stairs. Might need to add a handrail.

by installing new wood treads, a new handrail and widening the bottom tread to create a more grand staircase. The custom entry light (designed by Jason Ball Interiors) helps create a real statement when first entering the home.
We love this stairway and upper hallway but need to budget for this job. How much would re-doing the stairway/hallway in the photo cost?
What was the total cost for this staircase remodeling project, including design, demo, materials and installation? A ballpark # is fine. Thanks...
I purchased the metal balusters through StairSupplies.com. Be sure to tell them Jason Ball Interiors recommended them to you.
Jebasanthi - My recommendation is to talk with an architect in your area. They will need to draw up plans anyway for permits, etc., and will be able to tell you what's possible given the construction of your home. Best of luck!
