The opening in the deck above is 10'-5" by 7'-2". Depending on the local code it may be possible to be more compact. consider the wisth of the treads at 36" plus 3" per side for the C section steel frame; multiply by 2 and add a minimum of 1" gap between the flights and 1" gap to the wall on either side
