Folding. Altering the shape of steel can expand its spanning capability. Similar to the Roman arch, the shape here distributes the loads more efficiently. Because the thin plates comprising this cantilevered stair are folded, they're rigid enough to span large distances.

What type of material? (Aluminum or stainless steel or other) How thick are they? How far do they extend from the wall? How much is inside of the wall?
Yes, the steel embeds were flush with the surface of the concrete. There was no skimming or concrete. Everything there was in the formwork. Again, a fabulous job

The balusters are 1/2" x 1/2" square steel pickets. They support a 1 1/2" x 3/8" steel railing, which is capped with 2" x 3" or 4" mesquite (not sure which dimension was ultimately used). Not sure what you mean by
