A dog run doesn't have to be a cage but separation is sometimes necessary especially with a multiple-dog household. Photos by Pat Bernard
What kind of ground cover did you use for your dog run?
gravel along edge of fencing/path for dogs
beautiful dog run! Definitely going to build something like this, flanked in flowers.
Dog run is partly camouflaged by plantings.

Love the dog run! Great fencing!!!!
Area for dogs to run and be safe
2. Consider safety first. Dogs may have descended from free-ranging wolves, but our domesticated friends do best with boundaries. You might opt for a fully fenced backyard or a dog run within a larger area. Either way, you’ll know your dog is both happy and safe.

Hog wire fence surrounding dog run with dog house. photo by Galen Fultz
What kind of gravel did you use for your dog run?
This is perfect for my medium to large dogs. I've seen another 2x4 piece added to the top to give it extra height. So the 4x4 extends vertical about 8 inches and then a 2x4 is run horizontal to what you see here, giving the height that my dogs would need to keep them in.
wonderful but I do see some problems. 1) the fence is too low for many dogs and the wire grid is far too wide and injury can occur to the dog.
Any problem with the dog injuring his nose or paws by sticking them through 4" grid?
winter summer dog world concept- the fence is nice too
I love this type of fence. Love the shade for the dog. Essential!

I have only had one project where coyotes where a major concern and threat for clients 2 small dogs. Research showed that coyotes usually dig rather than jump over fence. So, at that site, 2' of wire fencing was buried at the base of their privacy fence. Large metal hooks were used to hold it down. Since
the wire fencing was buried it wasn't unsightly. The client reports that she has not had any issues with coyotes entering the property, however, the 2 dogs are not left outside overnight, so possibly there isn't sufficient "prey" for the coyotes to want to try very hard to enter. I've heard of great success
