The beams are an ordinary construction trick of wrapping a structural beam with 1x facing resulting in what is called a "box beam." They were stained with a semi-transparent stain so that, while some pigment remains, some of the wood grain

frustrates me, because I have my sofa laid out facing it in the middle of the room, and it seems like it takes up so much space that way. I have a sectional and feel like that is the only thing I can use in this space because I don't want my sofas to face sideways. I guess that's why I was wondering

TV is 100" off floor, used tilting bracket - no problem with viewing TV. Fireplace is 84" wide, 32" from wall to corner of fp, hearth is 18" beyond face of fp.
