Enjoy this pathway. It's easy to walk on and pretty too!Home & Garden Design, Atlanta - Danna Cain, ASLA
The gravel path was created along my normal route so no one had to retrain me. I love that the slate nuggets don't get stuck between my toes and Mom's really happy now that I don't drag mud into the house! ... Bailey the dog. Photo by Danna Cain

A gently curved flagstone path draws pedestrians from the front yard, through the spacious side garden, toward the rolling lawn in the distance. An opening in a row of trees frames the view. Within this side garden, however, there are plenty of beautiful plant combinations that provide interest. From

Paths and Steps Remember that even with a classic gravel path, properly installing the subgrade, the base course and the surface layer can give you a much more durable result. Instead of just throwing some gravel down in your garden, consult a landscaper to get some good recommendations on plastic grids

What is the plant lining the path?
this pathway. It looks like you've put in a line of metal edging between the path and garden. What type of edging was used and how deep does it go? Thank you.
Thank you so much, Kari. I'm getting ready to make some paths in my garden so I just might try your suggestion.
I've seen mixed results with hardener/stabilizer. Recently I was involved in a project here, and learned the hard way that dg paths with stabilizers can still get mushy when wet. Before using a stabilizer or hardener, just ask the manufacturer specifically how their product performs

What is the material for the path? Topsoil?
I'm trying to find right material borders around gravel path.
Hi Lisa--The border on this path is 1/8" rolled steel edging. It has to be secured in place, but it does make nice graceful curves and I prefer it because it doesn't rot over time and I think it looks better than the recycled plastic types of bender boards. Hope that helps you!
Thanks for the question. The path material is called 1/4 inch-minus crushed gravel. It's a local gravel made from basalt rock that is crushed, so it packs down well (unlike pea gravel). The pathway was installed with a rolled steel edging to contain the gravel, and a vibrating compactor machine is used on

Stone set over soil with planted joints costs much less and uses fewer resources than a grouted and mortared stone path. It also integrates well with the adjacent plantings while adding dimension, texture and pattern to the composition.
